- Spectacular rocky coast in the furthest eastern corner of Madeira Island.
- One of the island´s must do routes and popular guided walking tour.
- Remarkables cliff and rocks formations combining with breathtaking views!.
Ponta de São Lourenço walk runs along the eastern and most beautiful peninsula of Madeira Island, the dramatic coastline makes the walk one of the island´s most popular since it is a rocky, contrasting alternative to the lush, evergreen Levada paths.
The Ponta de São Lourenço is classified as a partial natural reserve and part of the European network of important community sites – Natura 2000.
Named after the explorer Zarco´s ship the “São Lourenço”, this peninsula is linked underwater to the Desertas Island. The walk will reward you with many sightings of unique plants, in all about 140 species, 31 that are exclusive of Madeira Island.
Along the way we are amazed by fantastic sceneries, with the Deserted Islands in the south and the islands of Porto Santo in the north (if the weather permits). From this walk is possible to see the northern and southern coasts of Madeira Island.
Walking to the far end of the peninsula we find the “Cais do Sardinha”, support to the rangers of the Natural Park of Madeira. During the summer we will recommend you to bring your bathing suit to swim in crystal clear waters.
After a few minutes of rest, we return by the same path to the end but before that, we will have the possibility to visit a wonderful viewpoint with stunning views!.
